Our seedlings are grown from the best varieties of today.

Seedlings are the children of the parent plants, and so each one is slightly different, from each other as well as from the parents. Much like garden vegetables that have been slowly improved over millennia, or the famed lineages of the apple varieties grafted everywhere today, by planting seedlings of the best plants available today, tomorrow you get to participate directly in the ongoing histories of various plant species, of what foods people like to eat, and of nature itself. We hope that someday you will plant seedlings from the best plants you got from us, so that we can keep the whole thing going.

We select fruit seed from the best parent plants growing in our local area, as well as the best cold hardy varieties of fruit available at our grocery store and local farmers markets. For nuts we gather seed from the best nut trees in our area, and for nuts we can't find but that do grow here we purchase those from top quality nurseries and orchards in the Northern US and Canada who sell nut seeds from proven trees of their own stock.

"Plant like your life depends on it, for it does!"  - Collette O'Neil

Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts; they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life.

Herman Hesse

If you catch the through-fall [of rain through a tree canopy], it is not rain. It’s as different from rain as what goes down the plug in your bath is from what comes in through the tap. It contains 20 to 30 times the phosphates of rain, it contains a whole slew of trace elements, and it contains organic acids. It is the tree’s bathwater, and it’s a much richer substance than rain.

Bill Mollison

We have nothing to fear and a great deal to learn from trees, that vigorous and pacific tribe which without stint produces strengthening essences for us, soothing balms, and in whose gracious company we spend so many cool, silent, and intimate hours.

Marcel Proust
