Design and Installation of Food Forests & Agroforestry Systems

Create a Resilient, Self-Sustaining Landscape with Expertly Designed Food Forests

As an experienced practitioner of agroforestry and agroecology, I specialize in designing and installing sustainable, multi-layered food forests and agroforestry systems that are tailored to your unique landscape. By integrating ecological principles with practical, productive design, my services aim to restore balance to the land while providing long-term food security and biodiversity.

Why Choose Agroforestry?

Agroforestry is a holistic approach to land management that combines trees, shrubs, crops, and livestock to create synergistic, resilient systems. The benefits of incorporating agroforestry into your land are clear:

  • Increased Biodiversity: A diverse ecosystem that promotes healthy soils, water retention, and natural pest control.
  • Enhanced Soil Health: Deep-rooted plants improve soil structure, carbon sequestration, and fertility.
  • Food Security: Year-round yields of diverse, nutrient-dense crops, including fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants.
  • Sustainability: Eliminate dependence on external inputs such as synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Manageability: A good design should be easily manageable by the landowner in perpetuity.
  • Climate Resilience: Agroforestry systems offer natural mitigation for extreme weather events, enhance carbon sequestration, and reduce soil erosion.

Our Process

  1. Consultation and Site Assessment
We begin by evaluating your property to understand its unique characteristics: soil health, water flow, microclimates, and ecological dynamics. This in-depth analysis allows us to design a system that will thrive in your specific conditions. Click the "Book Your Time" button to schedule your initial consultation, during which we'll see if our services are a good fit for you. Then we'll schedule an in-person site assessment in which we'll evaluate your site, after which we'll follow up with a contract proposal covering all aspects of the installation.

  2. Custom Design
Using agroecological principles, I create a detailed, tailored plan for your food forest or agroforestry system. This plan includes site preparation, plant selection, companion planting strategies, water management solutions, and land-use design to maximize productivity and biodiversity.

  3. Installation
Once the design is finalized, I lead the installation process, ensuring that every element is implemented with precision. From tree planting to the installation of groundcovers, irrigation systems, and mulch layers, the installation phase is done to the highest standards of care.

  4. Ongoing Support and Maintenance
After installation, I offer continued consultation to ensure the long-term success of your food forest. This may include seasonal guidance, pest management advice, pruning, and monitoring system health.

What Sets Us Apart?

  • Expert Local Knowledge: With years of hands-on experience in agroforestry and agroecology in Western MT, I bring practical insights and deep technical knowledge to every project.
  • Tailored Solutions: I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. Every system is designed to suit your land’s unique conditions and your specific goals.
  • Ecologically Informed: Every design is rooted in ecological principles that support a self-sustaining, resilient ecosystem. We will fill your space with living plants, not a desert of bark mulch with a few trees and plants here and there.
  • Focus on Long-Term Viability: We prioritize solutions that not only meet immediate needs but ensure long-term ecological and economic benefits.
